Caught In the Act

The preacher arose the first night of the meeting;
He said, "Tonight, the subject is 'adversity,'
But tomorrow night I'll speak on 'lying',
So please read Mark, chapter twenty-three."

The next night the preacher began to speak ...
"I announced last night what the subject will be.
We will consider the consequences of lying.
How many have read Mark, chapter twenty-three?"

Hands quickly arose in response to the question;
The preacher smiled, his eyes lit up like a spark.
"Well, I've come to the right place," he said -
"There is no twenty-third chapter of Mark.
