Going Beyond What Is Written

Unity Church in Chicago has a new, but human originated, plan of salvation. Members write on pieces of paper what they want to change in themselves. The notes are burned in a bowl on the church's altar. "It's a symbolic way of wiping the slate clean so I can start over," said Jasmine Schmidt, the youth education director of Unity Church (12-27-02). (Editor note: we hesitate to mention this in the fear that some of our own may adopt this unbiblical practice. Alas!"
