On Sept. 3, 1926, Jack Dempsey met the challenger Gene Tunney in a prizefight
at Philadelphia. The crowd of fans had become accustomed to Dempsey victory
celebrations and expected another that evening - but Dempsey lost! After the
fight, the crowd grew quiet as Dempsey faced the crowd of friends and
reporters. The seconds stretched out awkwardly until, finally, his wife broke
the silence: "Jack, what happened?"
Dempsey's classic answer went right to the point: "Honey, I forgot to duck!"
