Telling the Truth

By Alan Smith
More stupid criminals:

In Great Britain in 1997, a young man decided to blackmail a well-known supermarket chain by threatening to contaminate the foods on sale there. He sent a note demanding 30,000 pounds to be paid into his bank account and provided, (just to make sure that they got the right amount into the right account) his bank account number. Not surprisingly he was soon caught and convicted.

Weighed Down

By Alan Smith
David Posman 33, was arrested in Providence, R.I, after allegedly knocking out an armored car driver and stealing the closest four bags of money. It turned out they contained $800 in PENNIES, weighed 30 pounds each, and slowed him to a stagger during his getaway so that police officers easily jumped him from behind.

David Posman is not the first person to make the mistake of trying to run while being weighed down. In fact, it happens spiritually all the time. The Hebrew writer talks about sin being a weight that keeps us from effectively running the Christian race. We can get bogged down with things that pull us away from God. And, by the way, as with Posman, those things that are weighing us down are not worth nearly as much as we thought they were when we grabbed hold of them.

"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us." (Hebrews 12:1)

Anything weighing you down? May you lay it aside as you run the Christian race today.

Have a great day!

When Do Mothers Rest?

A young mother with three extremely active young boys was playing "cops and robbers" one afternoon in the backyard when a neighbor stopped by to borrow a cup of sugar.
One boy aimed his pistol at his mother and yelled "Bank! You're dead."

The mother slumped to the ground in a heap. When she did not get up right away, the neighbor hurried to see if she had been hurt in the fall.

As the neighbor bent over, the over-worked mother opened one eye and whispered, "Shhhh. Do not give me away. I this the only chance I've had to rest all day."
